Parsa National Park is located in the Terai region of south-central Nepal, encompassing an area of 627.39 km2 (242.24 sq mi) across the Parsa, Makwanpur, and Bara Districts, with elevations ranging from 435 to 950 m (1,427 to 3,117 ft) in the Sivalik Hills. Initially established as a wildlife reserve in 1984, it attained national park status in 2017. The park has been surrounded by a buffer zone since 2005, which covers 285.3 km2 (110.2 sq mi). In 2015, the protected area was expanded by an additional 49 sq mi (128 km2). To the north, the East Rapti River and Sivalik Hills create a natural barrier against human encroachment. The eastern boundary reaches the Hetauda–Birgunj highway, while a forest road marks the southern limit of the park. To the west lies Chitwan National Park, which is adjacent to Valmiki National Park, a tiger reserve located in India. This transnational protected area spans 2,075 km2 (801 sq mi) and is part of the Tiger Conservation Unit (TCU) Chitwan–Parsa–Valmiki, which collectively covers 3,549 km2 (1,370 sq mi) in the Terai–Duar savanna and grassland.
The predominant vegetation in the park is sal forest, which makes up approximately 90% of the area. Chir pine is found in the Churia Hills, while Khair, sissoo, and silk cotton trees line the watercourses. Sabai grass thrives on the southern slopes of the Churia Hills. A total of 919 floral species have been documented, including 298 vascular plants, 234 dicots, 58 monocots, five pteridophytes, and one gymnosperm. Parsa National Park is home to various wildlife, including Gaurs, Bengal tigers, mugger crocodiles, king cobras, monocled cobras, Russell's vipers, elongated tortoises, Indian softshell turtles, Indian black turtles, Indian flapshell turtles, Oriental garden lizards, and Oriental rat snakes. It is also an excellent location for birdwatching, boasting over 500 species of birds.
